S2BMRC presented first results of its study on UBC in Europe on the 7th European University-Business Forum

Almost 500 attendees registered to the 7th European University-Business Forum on 6.-7. April 2017 in Brussels.

One major topic of the forum was the “The state of University-Business Cooperation in Europe”. The European Commission has contracted a major study on the state of University-Business Cooperation in Europe with the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre. The study consisted of interviews with key stakeholders, an extensive literature review, the development of 50 case studies and the conduction of a major survey (separate questionnaires for HEIs and businesses). In total, 17.431 completed questionnaires were collected (with 14.318 HEI questionnaires and 3.113 from businesses).

In his keynote "The state of University Business Cooperation in Europe – main findings and recommendations from the major study undertaken for the European Commission”, Prof. Dr. Todd Davey from the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre, presented the first results of the study.

In the afternoon, two workshops were conducted. In this stream, the main findings, conclusions and recommendations resulting from the study to date were discussed. Furthermore, some examples of good practice, which show how certain UBC challenges can be tackled and which benefits this can bring to the different players involved were presented and reviewed.

WORKSHOP 4.1: The current state of UBC in Europe

In this workshop, facilitated by Prof. Dr. Todd Davey, Arno Meerman (both S2BMRC) and Dr. Victoria Galán Muros (Technopolis) the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the study on University-Business Cooperation were discussed. It had been some lively and interactive sessions, with inputs from the study, followed by work in small groups to discuss the findings, conclusions and recommendations. Participants were be able to ask questions and get insights into how the findings could be applied in their own institutions.

WORKSHOP 4.2: Good Practice in European UBC; case studies

During this workshop, Prof. Dr. Thomas Baaken and Dr. Victoria Galán Muros introduced and discussed three case studies that illustrated examples on how certain challenges towards university-business cooperation have been overcome.

On the next day, the rapporteurs reported to the plenum session the results of the workshops. Arno Meerman was rapporteur of the Workshop 4 “UBC in Europe”.
