Mexican Academics in Knowledge and Technology Transfer positions receive training in Münster University of Applied Sciences.

Once again, the Mexican government, through its National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the initiative GetIn, has selected Münster University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) and its Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre (S2BMRC) as a destination for training in knowledge and technology transfer.

A delegation of 18 academics from Mexico, in knowledge and technology transfer positions, visited MUAS to receive training on alternative approaches for knowledge and technology transfer. The training was delivered within the framework of the new initiative from the MUAS on Professional Development Programmes (https://en.fh-muenster.de/pdp/index.php) developed thought the S2BMRC.

The training day included a visit through the Science and technology assets from Münster, including the The Bioanalytik Münster e.V. and MUAS. This training module, entitled “An integral strategy for the entrepreneurial university”, presented the participants the real case of MUAS and the synergies achieved between three core units of the University to improve the process of Knowledge and Technology Transfer. These three main units are: The Presidential Board, the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre, and the Transfer Agency from MUAS.

Prof. Thomas Baaken welcomed the participants and presented an overview of this training module. Representing the presidential board, the Vice-President for Teaching and Internationalisation – Prof. Frank Dellmann – presented the strategy of the university to achieve a successful transfer of knowledge and technology in the region. Representing the Transfer Agency from MUAS – Rolf Laakmann presented the current projects developed for the region, under the INTERREG framework.

From the side of S2BMRC, Prof. Thomas Baaken presented the concept of Science-to-Business marketing and the important role that the S2BMRC plays in the whole strategy of the university for a successful transfer of knowledge and technology. The S2BMRC, also highlighted the awareness they have for educating students for this economy. Adding to this topic, Balzhan Orazbayeva and Sue Rossano-Rivero, presented their teaching strategy, where students work with companies on research based marketing consulting projects.

Finally, covering the topics of Entrepreneurship, Dr. Klaus-Michael Weltring received the participants in the BIOANALYTIK MÜNSTER e.V., to present a successful case on high tech entrepreneurship, in the line of Bio- and Nanotechnology. The new centre is unique and has an innovative approach: Office and high and Lab space is provided to Start ups and also research based established companies.
The visit ended with the presentation by Mihai Melonari, research associate at the S2BMRC, who presented the approach to nurture student entrepreneurship at MUAS and in the Münster region as a whole.
